The Sukkah of the Great Synagogue of Grodno hosted the Israeli Ambassador to Belarus
Yesterday, the Israeli Ambassador to Belarus, Mr. Edward Shapira, visited the old Synagogue in Grodno, he toured the Synagogue with the Rabbi of the city, Rabbi Yitzchak Kofman and was given an overview of the history of the building by the Community Head, Mr. Boris Kveytkovsky.
Mr. Shapira expressed his admiration of the beauty of the building, and showed interest in the restoration plans and progress in the renovations.
The ambassador blessed on the Four Species in the Synagogue's large sukkah.
The visit was also an opportunity to meet with civil authorities of Grodno, during the continuation of his visit the ambassador met with the Local Mayor, Mr. Savachenko.
Mr. Shapira met a group of Jews from the city, and in their presence presented a Righteous Gentile award, from Yad VShem to the daughter of Konstantin Matiukevich, who saved and hid Jews during the Holocaust.
