You are setting out on a tour of Jewish Grodno.

The tour focuses mainly on buildings and sites of Jewish significance in the past, which are still in existence today.

Mr. Tzvi (Gregory) Chassid was born and raised in Jewish pre-holocaust Grodno. He studied in the Jewish "Tarbut" school. He was a young man at the time the city was occupied by the Nazi’s and he was trapped in the Grodno Ghetto with 29,000 fellow Jews. He succeeded in jumping off a train carrying thousands of Jews to Treblinka Death Camp, and joined up with the Partisans in the forests of Belarus. After the war, he returned to Grodno and lives here until the present time.

Mr. Chassid possesses a broad knowledge of the history of Grodno and its Jewish community life. He has a full command of Hebrew, Yiddish and English, as well as Russian and Polish. Many visitors to Grodno have been fortunate to tour the city with him and to hear his recollections.

Here, you can join Mr. Chassid on a virtual tour of all the significant Jewish sites existing in Grodno today.

Our deepest gratitude to Mr. Chassid on the time he has dedicated to preparing this tour, for the benefit of all those seeking memories of Grodno throughout the world.
